I mostly leveraged that into a strong army which was always upgraded and constantly at full hp due to money, earned fame though bullying an AI and killing its units. Things really took off with the Dutch VOC since I had harbors, Havens (phonetician) and Cothon (Carthage). I started coastal with lots of horses which actually made Byzantium reasonable. The other fun game I tried was all Money. I did colonize around turn 120, and significantly closed the fame gap by turn 300, but not enough to win. It seems like aggression is the way to go, at least some of the time, to get fame that way. I had about 50% of mine, saving some city cap to go for the new world. One of the AI on the other continent managed to conquer the whole thing by turn 80. The default game map had 3 continents, 2 populated, one a 'New World' empty one. My most recent game was also a loss, though just barely. Actually the UI in general is not very easy to read. I just wish the yields on the tiles were clearer on the map itself. I like that the game suggests the tile with the largest bonus when placing a district pretty clearly. Rivers are key to healthy cities in humankind but unless you look through the tech tree that is not obvious. On the downside I feel like civ does a better job of making interactions with the map more interesting, clear, and important. I will say from my experience with ES, Amplitude does a decent job communicating and responding to feedback which is always a welcome quality. I liked endless space a lot and I still think Amplitude does better with space 4x than this, but I am interested enough to see where it goes. In my first real game I lost because I was so used to the civ AI that I didn't expect the broken alliance into an immediate backstab war via mongols from my neighbor. General impressions are that its a fun game, AI is better than civ6 by a lot (as has been commented on here already).

Boyfriend got me this for Christmas, I played 4 games so far.
